On November 1, the public drinking water dispensers of Stadtwerke Kevelaer will be taken out of service and made winter-proof. This is to prevent damage to the equipment and pipes caused by frost. "After extensive maintenance and sampling, thirsty people will be able to refresh themselves again next spring at the drinking water fountains on Kapellenplatz and in the St. Jakob brine garden," assures Hendrik Kruß, Head of the "Service and Transport" department at Stadtwerke Kevelaer.
The granite columns with stainless steel elements dispense drinking water from the mains at the touch of a button. With the drinking fountains, Stadtwerke Kevelaer ensures that all citizens and visitors have free access to clean drinking water during the summer months. In the winter months, however, the drinking fountains in the city center are out of operation for frost protection reasons.
Hendrik Kruß gives the following tip for this time: "As a local water supplier and part of the "Refill" initiative, we will also be offering the service of free drinking water in the coming months. You are welcome to visit us in the water tower and fill up the bottle you have brought with you at our water dispenser." Together we can also act in an environmentally conscious way in winter and avoid single-use plastic.
