Summer heralds some entertaining events around the vacations. With the exhibition "KUNST NATÜRLICH", "So klingt der Solegarten", "Quiz im Löwen", the "KoBü-Flimmern", the "30th Hot Air Balloon Festival", the "Atempause" with open-air cinema, the town festival and the "Rotary Classic Car Rally Kevelaer", the calendar of events is bursting with variety. "Holidays at home can be more exciting than a few days on the balcony. With these selected highlights, there should be something suitable for everyone," says Verena Rohde, Business Development Manager and Head of Kevelaer Marketing.
Art in the brine garden
Under the motto "KUNST NATÜRLICH!" Nicole Peters, artist and winner of the competition of the Bundesverband Bildender Künstlerinnen und Künstler Niederrhein (BKK Niederrhein), will be exhibiting her works in the information building at Solegarten St. Jakob from June 21 to July 7, 2024. The nature-based art is usually created between spring and fall. In her "gARTen Atelier Peters", she also explores gardening in times of climate change and insect extinction. Many of the painted plants and insects can also be discovered in the adjacent St. Jakob brine garden. The opening of the exhibition on June 21 at 6 pm will be chaired by Paul Wans, artist and chairman of the BBK Niederrhein.
Live music around the graduation house
The fourth birthday of the Solegarten St. Jakob will be celebrated again this year with the event "So klingt der Solegarten". On June 22, 2024, the Solegarten will be transformed into a stage for musicians from the "Rockschule Hamminkeln" with their acoustic instruments from 6 pm to 10 pm. In the evening setting of the graduation house, all visitors are invited to linger on picnic blankets or folding chairs and listen to the atmospheric sounds. Old Butchery takes care of your physical well-being with handmade sandwiches and summery salad bowls. Cool drinks can be enjoyed in the beach area, the converted volleyball court, with the Cocktail Ambulance.
Cinema fever in the concert and stage house
With the summer vacations, the popular "KoBü-Flimmern" for young and old starts again on July 10, 2024. In the following six weeks, every Wednesday at 10.30 a.m., the Concert and Stage House or the Forum of the Public Meeting Center will be transformed into a cinema hall with popcorn & co. The films are about inseparable friendships, animal adventures, great feelings and heroic deeds on four paws. A colorful program full of beautiful children's films awaits all Kevelaer cinema enthusiasts. Cinema tickets with a goodie bag are available for 5 euros per person online at www.kevelaer-marketing.de, at the tourist information office in the town hall and in the information building at Solegarten St. Jakob. Groups (of 10 people or more) as well as movie fans from the second visit pay only 1 euro per person for admission without a goodie bag. The movie titles can be requested by e-mail to kultur@kevelaer.de or by telephone on 02832 122-991.
30 balloons for the anniversary
Want to see your home country from above? That's possible on July 12 and 13, 2024. To mark the 30th anniversary of the Hot Air Balloon Festival, 30 hot air balloons, unusual special shapes and model balloonists will be guests in Kevelaer. In addition to the well-known balloon on the crane, the night glow and the helicopter flights, visitors can look forward to further highlights this year. A much larger funfair and an extensive and varied gastronomic offer invite visitors to the Solegarten St. Jakob this weekend. "We are delighted about the great commitment of individual Kevelaer clubs, which help to shape the festival with great offers, especially for children," says Alina Peters, Kevelaer Marketing employee. Anyone who wants to fly high should secure a ticket now. A coveted balloon basket seat can be booked directly by calling Wolkentaxi on 02801 70877. Tickets for a helicopter sightseeing flight are now available at the Tourist Information Office in the town hall.
On the move together
This year's "Atempause" with "Sport in the Park" offers a varied program of health, exercise and relaxation from 29 July to 16 August 2024 in the shadow of the graduation house. The free courses on offer give participants the opportunity to discover new interests and try them out with like-minded people in a relaxed, open-air setting. Anyone interested can look forward to new courses this year, as there will be cycling, laughing and dancing. And for the first time, KeveLama also has a special program for children.
At the end of the "Atempause", the popular free open-air cinema will take place on August 16, 2024 from 8 pm in the St. Jakob brine garden. Picnic blankets and folding chairs as well as your own food can be brought along for a cozy atmosphere. The real cinema feeling is complemented by hearty snacks, fresh popcorn and cool drinks, provided by the "Basilika Stübchen". The program flyer for "Atempause" can be viewed on the website www.kevelaer-marketing.de and is also available at the Tourist Information in the town hall and in the information building at Solegarten St. Jakob.
City festival by citizens for citizens
On August 3, 2024, the popular city festival organized by the "Inside Kevelaer e.V." association will once again attract visitors to the city centre. Visitors can look forward to a flea market, a colorful stage program with bands and clubs and a great time in the parking lot in front of the concert and stage house. The event has been organized by citizens for citizens for years, creating a very special atmosphere in Kevelaer.
