The district of Kleve is expected to begin construction work on Altwettener Weg (district road 33) in the pilgrimage town of Kevelaer on Wednesday, June 12, 2024. In the first construction phase, the carriageway between the Winnekendonk through road and the new junction with the L486n(continuation of OW 1) will be completely renovated. Some of the work is being carried out in parallel with the work currently being carried out by StraßenNRW at the new junction of the OW 1 with the K33. The new junction is being built roughly halfway between the districts of Wetten and Winnekendonk at Altwettener Weg 12 near Naturhof Kevelaer. This first construction phase is expected to last until the end of 2024.
Once the work by StraßenNRW has been completed, the second construction phase will involve the fundamental renovation of the Altwettener Weg from the Wetten through road to the junction with the L486n. The work is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2025.
The carriageway and cycle path of the K33will remain fully closed for the duration of the work. A detour will be in place from Wetten via Hauptstraße, Twistedener Straße, B9and Rheinstraße, which will continue as Schraveln and Kevelaerer Straße to Winnekendonk.
Residents living in the affected sections must expect restrictions and obstructions from construction vehicles and machinery during the entire construction phase. They will be able to reach their properties in coordination with the construction company, taking construction activities into account.
The district of Kleve is investing around 2.9 million euros in the entire project. The contact for the construction project is Kreis Kleve Bauverwaltungs-GmbH (KKB) on 02821 97709-0.
