The old spotlights had now far exceeded their service life. As the luminosity of these spotlights had diminished considerably, new lighting had to be installed. Intensive research had to be carried out first, as the new lights had to meet a number of requirements: They had to meet the DIN standards for indoor swimming pools, they had to be ball-proof, as water polo also takes place in the indoor pool, they had to be resistant to the high humidity and room temperatures in the indoor pool, chlorine-resistant, splash-proof and glare-free.
Building management held talks with lighting manufacturers and installed lights on the indoor pool ceilings as a test to assess their effectiveness with the swimming masters, the KSV swimming and water polo team and the swimming club.
Thanks to progressive developments in the field of LED technology, there are now suitable LED spotlights that provide the necessary illuminance and the special features of indoor pool lighting.
A total of 16 new floodlights were installed in the swimmers' area. The Kevelaerer Bäderverein contributed a large share of the costs of around 65,000 euros.
