The early federal election on February 23, 2025 is approaching and the pilgrimage town of Kevelaer as a municipality is looking for committed citizens who would like to support the election as poll workers. Around 110,000 electoral assistants are needed throughout North Rhine-Westphalia to ensure that the election runs smoothly for the approximately 13 million people entitled to vote.
Polling assistants help to ensure that all eligible voters can exercise their right to vote freely, secretly and close to home. After the polling stations close at 6 p.m., they count the votes in public to ensure that the results are correctly determined and passed on.
The Kevelaer Electoral Office therefore appeals: "Regardless of whether you already have experience or would like to take part for the first time: We welcome all support and would like to thank all those who are willing to take on this important honorary position."
Requirements and advantages:
- No prior knowledge is required: you will be prepared for your tasks in advance and supported by experienced election committee members on election day
- Minimum requirements: You must be at least 18 years old on election day, be a German citizen and have lived in Germany for at least three months
- You will receive a so-called refreshment allowance for your efforts
Why become a poll worker?
With your commitment, you are making an important contribution to the success of the election and thus to democracy itself. "You are actively helping to shape democracy!" says state election director Monika Wißmann.
