VHS: Variety of topics and event formats

Present and history

In addition to lectures on current developments in the fields of the energy transition, digitalization and politics, two lectures, which are being held in cooperation with the Uedem local history and tourism association, will provide special insights into historical topics. The digital lectures will feature renowned experts from the world of science.

Young VHS: Courses for children

In order to meet demand, the range of children's courses has been further expanded: Pottery, swimming, cooking and baking. And on four Sundays there are free online lectures for eight to twelve-year-olds from the vhs.KinderUni series. The topics are so exciting that parents are sure to enjoy them too.

Plant diversity

The VHS goes out into the forest and garden: the fascination for the natural garden is awakened and mushrooms and wild herbs are foraged and processed together. In keeping with the season, sauerkraut is made in the fall and, in cooperation with the observatory, an event is held on the Raunächte.

Art, theater, music, pottery

Trips to museums and theaters in the region will once again be offered. New instructors have been recruited for the music courses, so that singing, ukulele and guitar will be taught in small groups - beginners in particular will benefit from the course format. Also new are the pottery courses, which will take place in the pottery workshop on the VHS campus from this fall.

Strengthening professional and personal skills

In the area of vocational training and IT, there are courses of varying levels of difficulty that are primarily geared towards the learning needs of professionals. Both technical (IT) and personal skills (soft skills) are taught in face-to-face or online formats.

Newcomers, people returning to work and senior citizens will find special offers to build up or refresh their knowledge. In addition, the VHS is available as a cost-effective contact for customized contract measures and company training courses.

Written and spoken

In the area of foreign languages, a new English course at beginner level A1, an English A2 conversation course and a taster course in Japanese have been added to the program this semester. There is also an online Russian course for newcomers. A French evening invites you to sing along again. English, French, Spanish, Italian and Dutch can be learned at various language levels.

In addition to the integration and professional language courses funded by the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees, the German as a Second Language department offers an open evening course for levels A1 to B1. A total of three dates for the naturalization test will be offered in the coming semester.

Exercise, relaxation and enjoyment

There is also a wide range of (online) offers in the health department: from aqua gymnastics, stress management and spinal gymnastics to various yoga offers, there is something for everyone. New to the program are DanseVita® dance courses, in which tensions of everyday life are to make room for more vitality and joie de vivre. In addition, the new VHS teaching kitchen invites you to enjoy moments of pleasure in convivial company. The focus here is on healthy eating. But there are also special courses on the subject of "Smoking" and "Preparing for the Raunächte". There are also new cooking courses especially for men and (grand)parent-child baking courses.

It's never too late: obtaining school-leaving qualifications

Our current evening courses for obtaining school-leaving qualifications 2024 are gradually coming to an end. Personal counseling sessions for the new 2025 school-leaving certificate courses will therefore start in September 2024. Anyone interested in the first school-leaving certificate (formerly the Hauptschulabschluss after grade 9) and the Mittlerer Schulabschluss can contact us to arrange a personal counseling session.

The entire program can be found online at www.vhs-goch.de and has been available in printed form at the usual locations in the municipalities since this week. Registrations can be made online and on site at the VHS office (Hevelingstr. 123, Goch) or in the town halls of the municipalities of Weeze, Uedem and Kevelaer.
