Long waiting times for passports

If you are already planning your autumn vacation after the summer vacations, you should definitely take a look at your passport. Citizens in German cities currently have to expect long waiting times when applying for a new passport. Especially for the upcoming fall vacations, it could already be too late to get a regular passport in time, as the delivery time is currently up to 10 weeks.

A regular passport for people aged 24 and over costs 70 euros, and 37.50 euros for people under 24. If you want to make sure that your passport arrives in time for the fall vacations, you should apply for an "express passport". This costs an additional 32 euros, but is then available within about a week. A passport is required for travel outside the European Union (EU), especially to countries with visa requirements or strict entry regulations. Important: Great Britain is also no longer part of the EU. Within the EU, an identity card is usually sufficient.

The current delays are due to the fact that passports are produced centrally and the Bundesdruckerei is currently faced with a high number of applications.
