Tree walk

Urban trees are an important design element in urban planning. Trees make streets and paths appear friendlier and more attractive than "concrete deserts". Parks and children's playgrounds invite young and old to linger. Trees provide shade, fresh air and act as wind and noise protection. They therefore make a significant contribution to the well-being of city dwellers. Other creatures also benefit from the tree population: birds, squirrels, bats, arachnids and insects find a home here. Old trees in particular are true biotopes and can be home to up to 200 different insect species.

A tree walk was designed to familiarize citizens with the almost 13,000 street trees and park trees in the pilgrimage town of Kevelaer in all their diversity (more than 100 species):

The map for the "Tree Walk" shows 40 trees of different species along a 5 km tour through the city. On the back of the map are the main features of 24 trees with photos.

This tree walk is particularly aimed at schoolchildren and adults in Kevelaer who would like to discover trees or refresh their knowledge, and last but not least at tourists who would like to explore Kevelaer from a different perspective.
